What Is Wandering Wikis?

Wandering Wikis is a collaborative encyclopedia and video commentary initiative dedicated to walking through Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiversity, and other wiki-based whatnot.

Instead of treating wiki entries as static reference pages, we treat them as territory, landscapes to wander, interpret, annotate, and perform.

A Wandering Wikis post might include:

  • A casual, hangout-style walkthrough of a Wikipedia article

  • A brevitous lexicographical riff on a Wiktionary entry

  • A themed presentation aligning presenter aesthetics with the word

  • A CRT-screen recording of a wiki entry

  • A VTuber exploring an obscure term

  • A Gopherpedia dive

  • A niche-OS browsing session

  • A maximalist digression by a self-aware ultracrepidarian

In short: wiki entries, but alive.

The Spirit of the Wikivagant

If you wander through wiki-based knowledge systems for curiosity, performance, or playful interpretation, you are a Wikivagant.

Wikivagant (noun) — A person who wanders through wiki-based knowledge systems such as Wikipedia or Wiktionary.

Experimental Aesthetic Formats

Wandering Wikis embraces experimental presentation.

Some early examples include:

  • Using webcam filters or avatar software to visually align with the theme of a word (e.g., icy aesthetic for winter-bound)

  • Avatar-based presenters matching the tone of entries like using a pig avatar for the term 'pigheaded'

  • Casual, low-pressure hangout walkthroughs (e.g., Lozenge)

  • Pronunciation explorations of obscure terms like oryctognosy

The format is flexible. The only requirement is curiosity.

  • A lexicographical enthusiast

  • A video essayist

  • A VTuber

  • Grow your vocabulary whilst growing your musical lexicon.

It is a universe where definitions have decibels and rhythms have definitions.

MorDictionary Bear Blog Officially Launched

The Moribund Institute is pleased to announce the launch of the MorDictionary Bear Blog, the editorial wing of our meme-powered, ad-free, hyperspecific dictionary project.

MorDictionary has always existed as more than a static reference work. It is a living lexicographical workshop. The main MediaWiki archive preserves definitions, neologisms, hyperspecific phrasings, and experimental entries. It is structured, indexed, and built for longevity.

The Bear Blog serves a different function.

If the wiki is the archive, this is the workshop journal.

Here we document the philosophy behind our definitions, explore the aesthetics of lexicography, comment on notable entries, share technical experiments, and publish reflections on language culture. It is lighter, more narrative, and more discursive than the structured dictionary itself.

This launch marks another step in the Moribund Institute’s broader mission: accelerating the velocity of ideas through open, playful, and technically literate educational projects.

MorDictionary remains:

  • Meme-powered

  • Functional

  • Ad-free

  • Open-source friendly

  • Unapologetically expressive

The Bear Blog now provides the editorial space to explain why.

Read all about it here:

More projects, more branches, more lexicographical whatnot to come.
